Java Software Engineer

Position Description:

Responsible for the ongoing design and implementation of object-oriented frameworks and applications for a proprietary transaction server platform as well as Java client applications and web based user interfaces. Main responsibilities will be to design server side applications based on requirements and standard business process control points. You must have experience in large scale, structured development efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in all phases of the project lifecycle – architecture, design, development, alpha, beta, and release.
  • Researches, designs, develop and troubleshoot complex web based application systems.
  • Participates in the implementation of specific enhancements and design of the web based application systems and the Java Framework.
  • Performs ongoing quality assurance studies to evaluate system performance, compliance with specifications and requirements, and the quality of code produced by other engineers.
  • Participates in the implementation and maintenance of version control system and build procedures.
  • Contributes to development of project schedules, provides work/time estimates, and is committed to meeting deadlines.
  • Prepare documentation to describe program development, logic, coding and corrections.
  • A wide degree of creativity, latitude and flexibility is expected.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field and at least 4 years of concentrated developmental experience with client/server and/or multi tiered web based systems and expert level Java programming skills.
  • More than 3 years experience in developing large, multi-tiered, mission critical, scalable, application server based enterprise systems that function 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Experience in developing sophisticated Graphical User Interfaces for both web-based applications, with knowledge of JSP and JavaScript.
  • Experience in creating Web Services, specifically using SOAP or XML-RPC.
  • Experience working with SQL, JDBC and relational databases such as Oracle or MS-SQL Server
  • Strong experience in Object Oriented Design using UML and Design Patterns.
  • Strong experience in full life cycle software development.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong experience in the Linux/UNIX operating system.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for learning new concepts and technologies quickly.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Drive and determination to complete a project on time.
