Purpose:
- Define and maintain the network architecture model and business-aligned network evolution strategy (including costing and capacity models)
- Research, plan and design enterprise network environment (capacity, performance, hardware and software, security standards, for LAN, WAN and mainframe connectivity)
- Analyze business requirements, assess available technology, present network solutions, and provide technical guidance to other team members, thus ensuring consistent application of our Network Architecture standards across the Enterprise.
Main Responsibilities:
- Conduct technology research in the areas of Local and Wide Area Networking, architecture, protocols, hardware and software. Make recommendations on how our network architecture should evolve (with particular emphasis on evolution from SNA to IP connectivity).
- Formulate and maintain the Network Strategy, in support of business requirements and directions.
- Conduct evaluations and tests/pilots of the communications facilities and products in order to provide the optimal networking infrastructure for in alignment with business and network strategies.
- Act as a senior consultant to project teams/users in the analysis of business requirements and the selection of technical solutions for large or unique projects requiring network connectivity.
- Design LAN and WAN infrastructure using appropriate combination of hardware, software and facilities (hubs and switches, routers, cabling, leased lines, ATM etc).
- Oversee an on-going capacity planning and performance monitoring of all network facilities.
- Design an integrated mainframe, LAN and WAN networking environment, both for SNA and TCP/IP applications. Optimize the design and bandwidth utilization by combining SNA/APPN traffic, channel extension traffic, and routable LAN protocols (TCP/IP and IPX/SPX) on the same router backbone. Review and update the configuration regularly.
- Design Internet network configuration (redundant links, firewalls, addressing, multi-homing, extranets and VPN).
- Participate in internal and external projects and design the best possible network-based systems and solutions, in accordance with Network Architecture and Strategy.
- Build in full dynamic network redundancy (self-healing LAN and WAN) into the overall network design. Make sure that all necessary BCP network documentation is created and kept current; plan and participate in BCP tests.
Requirements - Experience:
- Expert knowledge of networking technology, both at the architecture and technical levels, as related to mainframe, LAN and WAN environments.
- Understanding of all aspects of information technology.
- Excellent understanding of budgeting, accounting and financial analysis.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation and presentation skills at both business and technical levels
- Strong analytical skills.
- Team player, self-motivated, able to work independently.
Requirements - Qualifications:
- University degree in Computer Science or Engineering and related work experience in computers and networking (10 years +).
- One or more of the following certifications: Cisco – CCDP or CCIE; Microsoft – MCSE, Novell - CNE, UNIX Admin.
